About the Role:

The Seasonal Park Gate Attendant plays a vital role in ensuring a welcoming and safe environment for all park visitors during the peak seasons. This position is responsible for managing the entry and exit points of the park, providing information, and enforcing park rules and regulations and maintaining park buildings and grounds. The attendant serves as the first point of contact, delivering excellent customer service and assisting visitors with inquiries about park facilities and activities. Additionally, the role involves monitoring visitor flow to maintain safety and order, as well as reporting any maintenance or security concerns to the appropriate authorities. Ultimately, the Seasonal Park Gate Attendant contributes to a positive visitor experience and supports the overall operation and preservation of the park.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods.
• Basic math skills for handling cash transactions accurately.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse visitors.
• Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, during the park’s peak season.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in customer service or park operations.
• Familiarity with local park regulations and natural features.
• Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency response procedures.
• Comfortable using point-of-sale systems or electronic ticketing devices.
• Bilingual abilities to assist a wider range of visitors.

Responsibilities:

• Plants and tends flowers, trees and lawns.
• Is responsible for the cleaning of park areas, picnic areas, parking fields and lots; may assist in snow removal
• Maintains and conditions ball fields, tennis courts, ice skating rinks, swimming or wading pools.
• Assists in painting interior or exterior building surfaces and playground and park equipment.
• Keeps working tools and equipment and work area clean and in good condition.
• Checks credentials of persons entering park to determine their right to use the premises and its facilities.
• Directs traffic inside the park and parking areas.
• Enforces park rules and regulations.
• Supervises boating activities; maintains piers; assigns moorings for boats.
• Keeps records and makes reports.
• May be required to collect fees.

The Seasonal Park Gate Attendant utilizes strong communication skills daily to provide clear and courteous information to visitors, ensuring they understand park policies and available services. Attention to detail and basic math skills are essential for accurately processing entrance fees and maintaining transaction records. Problem-solving abilities help the attendant address visitor concerns and respond effectively to unexpected situations or emergencies. Physical stamina and adaptability are important for working outdoors in varying weather conditions while managing traffic flow and safety. Working knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the upkeep and maintenance of parks and park facilities. Some knowledge of landscaping and horticulture.
