The Iowa Insurance Division is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Investigator to join our Market Regulation Bureau. This crucial position is dedicated to consumer protection by investigating and enforcing Iowa insurance and financial security statutes and regulations against unlawful, incompetent, or dishonest market conduct. Responsibilities As an Investigator, you will be primarily responsible for regulatory investigations of licensed individuals and business entities. Initiate and lead thorough investigations into potential violations of state insurance laws and regulations. Direct investigations on regulated parties, including Producers/Agents, Adjusters, Appraisers, Umpires, investment advisors, and other licensed entities. Review, analyze, and investigate consumer complaints involving regulated individuals and companies. Analyze insurance company and producer conduct for adherence to critical statutes including the Insurance Trade Practices Act (Iowa Code Chapter 507B), the Insurance Producer Law (Iowa Code Chapter 522B), Licensing of Adjuster (Iowa Code Chapter 522C), Licensing of Appraisers and Umpires (Iowa Code Chapter 522F) and Uniform Securities Act (Iowa Code Chapter 502). Work closely with a dedicated team of investigators and analysts to support the successful investigation and prosecution of consumer protection statutes. Qualifications Qualified applicants will have proven, progressive experience in insurance investigations, regulatory compliance, financial crimes investigation, or a related enforcement field and a strong understanding of insurance and financial security principles, practices, and state regulatory requirements. Must have the ability to analyze complex business conduct, interpret legal statutes, conduct effective in‑person and phone/video interviews, and prepare detailed, well‑supported investigative reports. All of the following (a and b): Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree; and A total of three years full‑time work experience in at least one of the following areas: Multi‑line insurance adjusting or underwriting; Investigating and recognizing violations of state laws or regulations and preparing cases proving such violations for presentation at administrative hearings; Conducting research, analysis, interpreting, implementing or monitoring insurance regulations and insurance products and providing consultation and customer assistance and technical assistance to stakeholders; Business management and administration including: budget administration and analysis, regulatory and legal compliance, quality assurance, and customer service administration. A total of seven years of education and/or full‑time experience (as described in number two), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full‑time experience. Current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes 18 months of full‑time work in insurance regulation.
