Ready to use design to make complex health care information clear, engaging, and actionable? Join our Communications and External Affairs Team as a Graphic Designer and help turn data-heavy reports, presentations, and public-facing materials into visuals that policymakers, stakeholders, and the public can quickly understand and use. At the Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA), we are stewards of Massachusetts health data, using multifaceted datasets and advanced analytics to support transparency in the health care system. Our work informs data-driven policies that improve the quality and equity of care while helping keep costs affordable for Massachusetts residents. As the Graphic Designer, you will help create polished reports, presentations, digital content, and other materials that make CHIA’s work visually engaging and easy to navigate. Reporting to the Art Director, you will coordinate multiple deliverables, support project tracking and timelines, apply robust design judgment, and work closely with colleagues. This role is ideal for a creative, detail-oriented designer who can balance independent ownership with thoughtful collaboration. The Graphic Designer will support a range of external- and internal-facing materials, including: Reports and publications: Design and layout polished reports, briefs, executive summaries, presentations, templates, and related communications materials using Adobe Creative Cloud tools, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, as well as Microsoft Office tools such as Word and PowerPoint. Data visualizations: Develop charts, infographics, icons, and illustrations, including conceptual ways to represent abstract ideas, that make technical information easier to understand while preserving accuracy, context, and nuance. Social media and animations: Create engaging social media graphics and simple animations that highlight key findings. Templates and brand standards: Build and maintain templates, style guides, and reusable visual assets that support consistent communications across recurring publications and projects. Duties include: Coordinate with communications, research, policy, and data colleagues to translate complex health care analysis into clear visual narratives. Prepare accurate, accessible, on-brand materials for digital publication, ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines. Proofread and review final materials for formatting, alignment, consistency, and overall production quality. Coordinate feedback from multiple reviewers and revise designs efficiently while meeting deadlines. Here are the important qualifications we are looking for: Educational foundation: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Communication Design, Digital Media, Data Visualization, or a related field. Professional experience: Minimum of 2 or more years of professional graphic design experience, preferably creating reports, data visualizations, digital materials, presentations, or other public-facing communications. Design skills: Ability to interpret briefs, develop concepts, respond to feedback, and transform complex information into accurate, engaging visual designs, illustrations, and icons. Conceptual thinking: Curiosity, sound design judgment, and the ability to develop thoughtful visual solutions that make complex information clear and engaging. Software: Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, and Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; experience with Canva, simple animations, and video/motion graphics is a plus. Communication and collaboration: Excellent oral, written, and people skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Quality and consistency: Strong self-editing and proofreading skills, with careful attention to accuracy, accessibility, formatting, and brand standards. Adaptability and growth mindset: Flexibility, willingness to learn, and comfort embracing evolving technologies, project needs, art direction, and feedback. Presentation and training support: Willingness to present work to peers and senior staff and contribute to training materials and guideline documents. Portfolio: Please include cover letter and a link to online portfolio. Total Compensation: We value the talent and expertise you bring to the table. The salary range for this position is expected to be $66,890.20 - $86,000. The final offer will be based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as applicable Commonwealth guidelines.
