Job Title: Fire Alarm Technician Job Description

This role involves installing, replacing, and troubleshooting fire alarm systems on commercial projects, primarily within hospital environments. You will read and interpret blueprints, complete detailed fire alarm work, and interact directly with on-site stakeholders. The position suits a technician with extensive fire alarm system knowledge who can work independently or as part of a team, maintains a professional demeanor at all times, and provides their own tools and personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

• Install, replace, and troubleshoot fire alarm systems on commercial projects, with a primary focus on hospital facilities.
• Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to plan and execute fire alarm installations accurately.
• Perform fire alarm system installation tasks, including device mounting, panel terminations, and system configuration.
• Pull, route, and neatly terminate low-voltage wiring and homeruns in accordance with project specifications and applicable codes.
• Install and bend conduit as required to support fire alarm and low-voltage system installations.
• Diagnose and repair issues with existing fire alarm systems, ensuring proper operation and reliability.
• Perform fire alarm system replacements, including removal of existing components and installation of new equipment.
• Install and service access control systems and cameras as part of integrated low-voltage solutions when required.
• Use hand tools and appropriate equipment safely and effectively to complete installation and service tasks.
• Work in finished and occupied healthcare environments while minimizing disruption and maintaining a clean, organized work area.
• Collaborate with team members and coordinate tasks to meet project schedules and quality standards.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with on-site personnel and other stakeholders as a client-facing technician.
• Follow all safety protocols, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment and adherence to site-specific requirements.

Essential Skills

• Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with fire alarm systems, including installation, troubleshooting, and replacement.
• Proficiency in fire alarm installation practices on commercial projects, particularly in healthcare facilities.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents accurately.
• Demonstrated experience with low-voltage systems, including pulling wire and running homeruns.
• Skill in bending and installing conduit to support low-voltage and fire alarm installations.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities for diagnosing and resolving system issues.
• Competence with hand tools and related equipment used in fire alarm and low-voltage construction work.
• Effective communication skills to interact professionally in a client-facing role.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Professional demeanor and reliability when working in sensitive, occupied healthcare environments.
• Ownership and use of personal tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) suitable for the role.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with access control system installation and service.
• Experience with camera installation and related low-voltage security systems.
• General electrical knowledge to support low-voltage and fire alarm work.
• Demonstrated low-voltage experience across construction or service projects.
• Strong common-sense approach to fieldwork and decision-making.
• Ability to maintain clear, concise communication with project teams and site personnel.
• Comfort working on long-term projects with a steady backlog of upcoming work.

Work Environment

Work involves commercial construction and low-voltage tasks, including fire alarm, access control, and camera installations, using standard hand tools, conduit bending equipment, and personal protective equipment. The environment emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and careful coordination while working around patients, staff, and other building occupants.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St. Petersburg, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00/hr.
